Belize Weather Update: Hurricane Rina

Rina strengthened rapidly over the northwestern Caribbean on Monday into the 6th hurricane of the 2011 season.
More strengthening is forecast and Rina could become a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale) in the next day or two.

Rina will move very slowly in the general direction of the Yucatan Peninsula in the coming days.

Locally heavy rain and winds to tropical storm or hurricane force are possible in the Yucatan Peninsula and western Cuba over the next several days.
