Relax, one of the biggest sites for globetrotters and travelers, just released an article where they position Belize as the 4th most happiest country in the world, out of a list of 20 countries. The ranking, the Happy Planet Index (HPI), was compiled and released by the New Economics Foundation, a UK independent think tank. The HPI ranks countries based on the health and happiness they produce per unit of environmental input, using global data on life expectancy, happiness and environmental sustainability. Belize has a total HPI of 59.3, only surpassed by Columbia, Vietnam and Costa Rica. Central and South American countries like El Salvador, Jamaica, Panama, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Guatemala also join Belize in the top 20 happiest countries in the world.
One of the main reasons why Relax considers Belize to be among the happiest countries in the world is because of the high number of cultures that live here. You might be asking how this is possible when the cost of living in Belize is rising in-considerably at a high rate not to mention the crime rate. Yes, it is true that Belize has become somewhat corrupted but even so people think good things of us -- that is why I am so proud to be a Belizean, I truly mean that. BTW the ranking is non-biased so there is a high possibility that what they say of Belize in the ranking is very true.
What about you? Do you think Belize rank among the happiest countries in the World? And if so, where would you put Belize in the ranking?
